Preliminary Task - Storyboarding

Here are my final storyboards which I have created for my preliminary task.

Preliminary Task: Mise-en-Scene

This is a French term which means 'put in the scene'. Mise-en-scene includes things such as costume and props. In a piece of film or television everything that appears in a shot should be there for a specific purpose.

Costume

The Boss:

  • Smart wear (shirt & tie)
Hitman
  • Smart wear (Suit & Tie)
  • Smart shoes (especially for the opening scene where you watch the Hitman walking)
  • Sunglasses (black, formal sunglasses)
Props
  • Desk (could just be an ordinary table but needs to be able to fit 2 characters on each end)
  • Pen and Paperwork (will be placed on the desk)
  • Chair (any)
  • Envelope (Stuffed with paper to look like money)

Preliminary Task

Preliminary exercise:

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/ reverse shot and the 180- degree rule.

Main task:

The titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes.
All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidates, with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright- free source.
Students should work in groups. Maximum of four members. Groups stay the same for the preliminary exercise and the main task.

Group discussion and screenplay

In this lesson we sorted ourselves into groups which we will work with for the preliminary task, I paired up with Deet Bains and called our group 'Hungry Films'

Our preliminary task would consist of two characters having a short conversation, we worked together to create the following screen play:

Interior: Drama Hall: Afternoon
Characters: Hitman and 'The Boss'

Screenplay: The Hitman swings open the large door and cautiously walks in, he walks over to the desk in where The Boss is sitting waiting for him, he takes a seat opposite the boss and they exchange dialougue and then the hitman walks out the room nervously.

Script:
Hitman: Got the money?
The Boss: Here it is, get it done quick!
Hitman: Are you sure?
The Boss: Yeah, now go!
